(Port) Wine of the month July 2021: BARROS VINTAGE PORT 1948
A great year for Vintage Port combined with a lesser known producer for this category is always exciting. You expect anything from “outstanding” to “has passed its prime” in the bottle, not to forget that the wine is sitting there for some 70+ years. Directly after popping the cork you could feel a hint of bottle stink, which completely evaporated after some three hours decanting. Elegant coffee and caramel, floral and spicy notes in the bouquet. Similar fault on the palate which also disappeared. Malt coffee, honey and tobacco. Long and complex aftertaste. Never give up a Vintage Port! 18/20
